Keys to Finding True Happiness

2020 was a very difficult year for me. I made mistakes, overcame depression, and lost friends, but every experience was a lesson that led me toward true happiness. It is never too late to restore yourself. Through my process of restoration, I learned the following:

  • Be comfortable with how God made you.

    • You are your own individual and there are traits that separate you from others. God made you this way on purpose, and He does not make mistakes.

  • Spend time alone.

    • Enjoying your own company is one of the greatest attributes to cherish. You’ll no longer entertain people or situations that will interfere with your peace and you will accomplish more along the way.

  • Do not rely on anyone or anything to make you happy.

    • Once you allow people to determine your state of mind, your emotional and mental well-being will be at risk. Instead, let God be the source of your joy. His peace surpasses understanding. (Philippians 4:7)

  • Find your passion.

    • Your passion fuels your purpose. We are all here for a reason, and once we tap into why God placed us on this earth, we can move with confidence and intentionality.

  • Know God.

    • There’s a quote that says, “No God, No happiness. Know God, Know happiness.” I’ve experienced this personally. My relationship with God and closeness to His presence determine how I think, act, and feel. We can go to church every Sunday, but do we know God? Is He active in our lives? Do we have daily fellowship with him? That makes the difference.

  • Accept your mistakes.

    • Losing and finding yourself is a cycle everyone experiences at least once in their life. Once you accept that you are flawed and prone to making a few bad decisions, you are able to let go of guilt and shame. Every mistake becomes a lesson eventually!

But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
