Goals for the Believer

January marks the time when people all around the world set their "New Year's Resolutions." As believers though, our constant pursuit is growth and improvement as each moment is an opportunity for change. Consider this list as your goals for every season of your Christian journey. Don’t wait until next year to become who God created you to be!

  • Express Gratitude

    • “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

  • Find Community

    • “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

  • Limit Distractions

    • “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1

  • Cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit

    • “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

  • Create a Prayer Closet

    • “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

  • Stop Complaining

    • “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” Philippians 2:14-15

  • Study Scripture

    • “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8

  • Tame Your Tongue

    • “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

  • Practice Forgiveness

    • “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25-26

    • “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22

  • Acts of Kindness

    • “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17
